Date of Release:  October 13, 2016

(Thunder Bay, ON)  A Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) Civilian Employee, Jennifer Duncan, is the distinguished recipient of the Civilian Achievement Award at the 2016 International Association of Women Police (IAWP).

Jennifer Duncan was presented with this distinguished accomplishment by Staff Sergeant Margaret D. Shorter, the IAWP President, during the 2016 IAWP’s annual conference held in Barcelona, Spain.

The IAWP was established in Los Angeles, California USA in 1915 by the first American policewomen as an international organization to provide professional development, mentoring, training, networking and recognition for female law enforcement officers and civilian support staff, as well as increase the numbers of women in policing. One-hundred years later, IAWP has members in more than 60 countries and continues the same traditions established by the founders.

The conference was held during the week of October 9-13, 2016 and included a 2 kilometre parade of IAWP members from around the world in downtown Barcelona, an Annual Recognition Luncheon, and a closing ceremony.

In May, 2016, Jennifer Duncan, Criminal Intelligence Analyst, was the recipient of the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement (OWLE) Civilian Award of Achievement.  The object of the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement is to encourage, promote and advance women in law enforcement.  Jennifer Duncan’s name was forwarded by OWLE to the IAWP.

Our congratulations are extended towards Jennifer Duncan and her achievements.
