(Kasabonika Lake, ON) – A fire that led to the complete destruction of Kasabonika Lake First Nation’s community church is under investigation.
An on-duty Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officer observed a fire at the church before 7 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11.
Community firefighters responded to the blaze with a water truck in an attempt to extinguish the fire. Despite those fire suppression efforts, the church was completely lost to the fire.
Members of the NAPS Criminal Investigations Branch, and police working out of the Kasabonika Lake First Nation detachment, are now involved in the continued investigation.
The fire is being treated as a possible case of arson. No arrests have been made at this time.
